Let’s face it, Jaipur is probably the most Instagrammable place in India! I spent 4 days in Jaipur, India’s Pink City, scoping out the best spots to get that perfect Instagram shot!
Jaipur is located in India’s most colourful state of Rajasthan. Rajasthan delivers big time on Indian culture. It will give you everything you ever imagined when you picture what India is like.
Make sure you go to these spots as early as possible in the day, especially if there is a holiday as they get VERY crowded.
Don’t worry about getting the perfect shot with the birds, they are everywhere and very well trained for photographers.
Here are my best Instagram spots in Jaipur
Instagram Spot 1: Patrika Gate
Patrika Gate is a must-see when you visit Jaipur. It is so beautiful! This is probably my number 1 best Instagram spot in Jaipur.
It is a series of beautifully painted colourful archways in a building that is in the middle of a roundabout. This one is also about 20 minutes outside of the main city, really close to the airport.
Not many people seem to flock to this site so it was easy to get shots without people in the background and wow the shots are stunning. If you like pastels and pinks like me this place is heaven!
This site is also free to enter!
Instagram Spot 2: Royal Tumbas
Do not miss this spot for the perfect Instagram photos! The Royal Tumbas are the tombs for the Kings of Jaipur.
It is located right by the Tiger Fort. Not many people visit this site and I’m not sure why because the buildings are stunning. This is where you can get the perfect photo with the famous Indian birds!
To find the Tumbas put Gaitor Ki Chhatriyan into Google Maps. The entrance fee is a mere 30INR or $0.40! Winning!
Instagram Spot 3: The City Palace
The City Palace is located inside the Pink City and is the top thing to do in Jaipur. Pink really is everywhere and it is stunning!
Try and go as early as possible to avoid the crowds. The best place to get shots is in the Pink Archways when you first walk in and in front of the famously decorated doorways. You can also take pictures of the beautiful guards but they will ask for money! 10 rupees is enough.
The entrance fees to get into the City Palace are 700INR or $10. However to be able to see more of the interior of the Royal Residences which include the blue and red rooms it will cost a whopping 3500INR or $50!
I couldn’t afford that, or justify spending that much to see these parts of the palace, but if you really want to see all the rooms be prepared to fork out.
Instagram Spot 4: Amer Fort
Amer Fort is one of the top tourist attractions in the city and for good reason! It is an iconic spot so is one of the best places to get a number of amazing shots for Instagram.
The fort is located just outside of the city. Make sure you go early, getting there for sunrise is the best. I went late in the day and during one of the biggest festivals of the year so I really struggled to get the perfect shot. Learn from my mistakes!
There are also some AMAZING walls you can climb across the entrance from the fort which makes the most epic sunrise shots.
The best places to take pictures inside the fort are the main grand entrance, the beige archways (which you will see when you arrive) as well as all the beautiful archways and windows scattered around the fort.
Take your time exploring the fort and getting lost. You could spend hours walking through the different hallways and doors, it’s really amazing.
Entrance fees for foreigners are 500INR or $7 and it is open from 8am to 5.30pm every day.
Instagram Spot 5: Tiger Fort
Tiger Fort, also known as Nahargarh Fort is another amazing Instagram spot in Jaipur. It is located in the centre of the city so is easy to get to.
Go either for sunrise or sunset. I recommend going for the sunrise because there will be no one there and you won’t have to pay any entrance fees!
This is the place where you can get the iconic sunrise shots sitting on the beautiful walls overlooking Jaipur. It’s truly magical! The place is huge so lots of different areas and outlooks to explore.
Instagram Spot 6: Hawa Mahal
The Hawa Mahal is a stunning pink building in the City Palace and is Iconic in Jaipur. This makes for a perfect Instagram spot.
This is where the queens and other female members of the royal family would be able to watch what was going on in the City without leaving the Palace.
You can see the Hawa Mahal from the street for free.
There are also some cafes across the road you can go to for a photo. Tattoo Cafe is supposed to be the best!
Instagram Spot 7: The Famous Pink Stepwell
This place is an Instagrammers dream and features beautiful shots on many profiles! It is located right by Amer Fort. To reach there put Panna Meena ka Kund into google maps.
What you may not know is that there are guards at the stepwell who don’t let you walk down the stairs to get those iconic shots. You need to go early when there aren’t many people around and bribe the guards to let you in or try and sneak down when they aren’t looking!
It was too busy when I went and I didn’t have the balls to bribe the guard or sneak in! I settled with sitting on the edge. Thanks to my lovely tuk tuk driver for snapping my pics for me!
It is free to see the stepwell.
Instagram Spot 8: Monkey Temple & Surya Mandir Temple
These two sites can be ticked off at the same time.
The Monkey Temple is beautiful and full of monkeys! There are three pools at the temple. One for men, one for women and another for monkeys!
There are two types of monkeys that live here and they have their own separate areas. Beware if you are scared of monkeys because there are A LOT.
It is free to get in but ‘guards’ will try and take money from you to take pictures here so as you are entering hide your camera.
Time your trip here to leave the temple just before sunset. On your way out stop at Surya Mandir Temple, otherwise known as Sun Temple. This temple is perched high on a mountain with sweeping views over Jaipur and is absolutely magical at sunset. Don’t miss it!
Tips for visiting Jaipur
- Uber is the best way to get around the city- it is the cheapest, safest, easiest and most comfortable.
- Get a SIM card as soon as you land in India. It is cheap and more reliable than Wifi.
- Get a prepaid travel card before you go and save money on exchange rate and ATM fees. If you are in the UK, Europe or Australia I recommend Revolut. You can open an app-based account in minutes. Hold and exchange 29 different currencies and spend anywhere with no fees in over 150 countries with a contactless MasterCard or Visa. I have used their online account and prepaid MasterCard for over three years and I love it. I have saved a fortune on fees.
- You get ยฃ200 of free ATM withdrawals a month (only 2% after that) and the exchange rate they give is the market rate
- You also will get individual GBP and EUR IBANs auto-savings, cutting edge budgeting and analytics, which is so useful I even use Revolut for all my transactions at home when I am not travelling.
- There is also a Premium plan which offers exclusive card designs, overseas medical insurance, ยฃ400 free monthly ATM and unlimited FX transfers.
- There is also a 24/7 live chat in the app so if you have any issues someone is there to help you with your questions.
- I stayed at Blue Beds Hostel. It was a really nice hostel with a kitchen, TV living area, nice beds and sheets. It was a bit pricey for India and lacked an outdoor chill space when I stayed. But it looks like they’re redone their rooftop since I stayed! The people working there were lovely.
- Jaipur is a big India city so it can feel really hectic, with no footpaths and nowhere to really walk or go to when you are just on the street. Take sanctuary in your hostel, hotel or find a nice bar or restaurant to go to. Peacock Rooftop Restaurant is a nice place to chill.
- Getting to Jaipur is easy, you can fly direct to the international airport or there are many buses and trains leaving from Delhi everyday. Use RedBus to book your bus in advance and see a travel agent if you want to catch a train.
There you have my best Instagram spots in Jaipur!
I hope you found these photography spots helpful in planning your trip to one of India’s most picturesque cities.
